Last night was the first "class" - a general orientation and then we broke down into two classes. I find the instructor a hoot. He is the typically artistic ego - the one that drives people to succeed - but he also wants people in the class to enjoy themselves. He is very passionate about virtual digital photography, and he wants his students to feel the same.
I'm a snap-happy girl in Second Life. There are so many beautiful places to see - and so many seem to disappear or evolve - that I love to record them. Then there are all those events and hanging out with friends. Some of those snapshots are pretty good - most are simply fun snapshots.
Today was my rez-day. One year in Second Life. And it was nearly a perfect day. I put on a pair of freebie bunny slippers, and before I knew it, I had a bunny t-shirt on and went shopping for rabbit ears.
I spent some time on my own, doing the typical things one does in SL. After that I puttered around my house and realized I need to take some classes on building. I found some time to shop for more clothes, although I simply looked for the most part. Visited a park. IM'd a friend. Nothing out of the ordinary, but today I appreciated the routine.
Later in the day, I became a bit more social. Our Sunday book discussion met. We discussed our sins are readers: judging others by what the read, indulging in JD Robb books, and one brave soul admitted to bending down corners of pages to mark her place. We talked about SL in general, tea drinking habits, and the sins of American English. Casual, social, bookish. Wonderful.
Finally, I attended a dance in Caledon. Friendly, witty people, excellent music, light flirtation. Dragons, robots, aristocracy and a vampire slayer. People being who they want to be and being accepted for it. An excellent microcosm of the best of my experiences in SL and why I'm looking forward to the next year.
Svarga is unusual in Second Life because it is a self-contained ecosystem. More complete details of the sim can be found at New World Notes. While you visit, look at the unusual vegetation, visit an oracle, bang on some drums at a castle. Fly to the top of a tree and survey the world around you (you can do this from the top of the towers, but I find it more fun to climb a tree.
